If You Grew Up in the 1970s – You Remember...
Join me for a nostalgic look back at what summer was really like for kids of the 1970s.
In the glorious days before cell phones and social media, American kids experienced a level of freedom and independence that today's kids would just not understand.
Generation X were the original latch-key kids. Our adventures began after a big bowl of cereal in the morning and came to an end when the streetlights came on.
In this video, we'll saddle up on the banana seat of the ol' Schwinn Sting-Ray for a visit back to the playground, community pool, and roller rink, ending the day with some night games in the neighborhood.
I really appreciate you watching these videos and reading this far in the description. I know there's plenty more that could have gone into this one. Please feel free to share your 70s memories in the comments so we can all be reminded of those great times when we were kids.
(NOTE: As of Sunday, June 16th Early AM - Comments are occasionally shutting off automatically. I've contacted UA-cam for assistance and hope to get this issue fixed ASAP. I really do want to hear your comments and stories...)
Thanks,
- Kevin

Revisit the days of Blue Light Specials, Kmart Cafeterias, and random wood-veneered merchandise scattered in aisles throughout the store. MAKE SURE to stick around for the musical montage...

Join me for a trip back in time to remember how we lived back in the 1970s! By the 1970s, suburban expansion had subdivisions moved further out onto former farmland and natural areas, far from the downtown cores. These neighborhoods were no longer bound by the street grid of the city, and new subdivisions were drawn up with curving streets, large lots, as well as bigger and more unique home des...

70s and 80s were pretty much the same growing up. Sometime in the late 80s, probably when the TV ads needed to start reminding parents to check on their kids, the government stepped in and took away all the fun of youth.

Commenting on adderal is shaming children who really need it. ADHD is proven today - there is visible neurological difference in how they learn. Many of the children in the 70’s failed terribly at school and dropped out because ADHD wasn’t recognized. My sister was one of them. My son wasn’t because he got the support he needed!

Days when We hitch hiked to town... Rode inda back of my fathers truck often sitting on the edge of the box (on a dirt road)... Went fish'n off the ledges (carried 22's & 410 shot guns) never came home till supper time.... Swam in the salt Atlantic ocean boiled conks in a tin can on an open fire onda beach.... Drank from the hose and all shared the same (glass bottle) of Pepsi.... If the phone which was hung onda wall & had a cord rang an' you weren't home nobody knew(no answering machines or call display)... Everybody's mudder cooked Sunday dinner... We all had banana bikes... We listened to local AM radio and played tapes..... Boys had crushes on girls an' girls had crushes on boys.... Kids these days will never EVER know, feel, or understand the fun & freedoms we enjoyed in the 70's I was born in 1961 and surely been missing those days (especially after living through the last 4years) 😞😞🙏 Thanks for the video👍

Summers in 1970s as a very young immigrant kid meant endless packets of Koolaid, boxes of Jello and an oscillating fan in our apartment to beat the heat. No air conditioning in the apartment or car. We only got Popsicles as a treat at the convenience store. No ice cream trucks in our area back then. Summer felt awesome and endless…😅🎉

San Diego, we used gunny sacks on the hot slides. 🛝. Bought ice blocks to slide down the grass hills and walk from 49th & Orange to Texas St. to the Municipal pool having a great adventure both ways. Going to the beach we hitchhike out to Mission Beach or Ocean Beach. It was great way to grow up. (1950s-thru 60s). We played a game called Strike Out at Euclid Elementary. There was no call to come in, the rule be home before the street lights come on. THEN we grew up and went to Vietnam, BUMMER

I'm 66 now. When I was seventeen, between my junior and senior year, me and a friend went to Panama City Beach, Florida during Spring Break and rented a room. Back then, they would let two seventeen year olds rent a room. I met a girl down there, sixteen, who was with her family at the same motel and we hung out all week and talked for a year after that, but I never actually saw her again. But when we were younger, we just roamed the neighborhood. I had a Schwinn Stingray.

I’m 62 yrs old. Brought tears to my eyes. Made me remember all those good times. It was so much fun. As the video mentioned…we taught ourselves how to have fun. And how to figure things out. And yes…I had a schwinn sting ray. I remember the day my dad took me to our towns bicycle shop. I wanted the candy apple red sting ray so bad. My dad bought be a gold one. It was $6 cheaper than the candy apple one. I loved my bike and all the freedom and adventures me and my sting ray had.
